Youth eNews: Youth E-News
Forest Hills Youth GroupE-NEWS
Week of January 28-February 3, 2008
NOTE FROM TOM: Ski Trip is coming up and there is some very important information in the e-news about the ski trip. Please make sure everyone that is going on the ski trip understands all the information. I continue to pray for each of you each week. I hope you are using your lists that were mailed to you to pray for each other. Remember, if you have prayer requests, please email, call, IM, or facebook me those request, so I can be more specific in my prayers for you. I am truly enjoying my work with you all and look forward to the times we are together! I hope this weekend will be a great time of continuing to get to know each other!
SKI TRIP NEWS: The Ski Trip is upon us and is going to be a great experience. Most of us have skied before but a few have not. It will be lots of fun watching everyone show off their skills as well as see some learn the skills of skiing. Here is the schedule. Please do not be late, matter of fact try to be early so we can get all the “before leaving” logistics taken care of!

Weather on Saturday is supposed to be partly sunny and a high temp. of 41 on the slopes. For skiing you will need: jacket, pants (best if ski bibs, but whatever you wear for pants, need to be water resistant), gloves, hat (you may want something to pull over your ears), Socks, goggles or sunglasses for your face, sunscreen (if you tend to burn on the slopes like Tom). For other parts of the weekend, regular clothing is fine. Don’t forget your toiletries, pillow if desired. The rooming assignments have been made and for most of the rooms there are 4 to a room. Most of the rooms also have an adult chaperon. The adults get a bed to themselves, so if you have an air mattress, you may want to throw it on the van just in case you want to sleep on the floor. And any youth that would like to bring a sleeping bag, just in case you want to sleep on the floor, it is up to you! Tom will bring 2 sleeping bags and an air mattress for anyone who may need those. Call Tom at 208-0478 if you have questions.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS: This Sunday, February 3, for all youth not going on the ski trip, there is still a Sunday School lesson for you. Elizabeth Murray will be teaching. Everyone will be meeting in the Annex for SS.
YOUTH PRAISE BAND/CHOIR NEWS: We are missing YOU! The Youth Choir has started and still, some of you are missing. We've got some great music for the spring but it just isn't the same without you...and yes, guys it is OK to have a good time singing in choir!! Saturday, March 1st
6:30-9:00pm
FHBC Dining Hall
ALL available youth are needed that evening! Sign up sheets are in the Annex. In addition to that night, youth may serve on other teams as well. This event requires the work of many adult volunteers. Please read over the opportunities, see where you can serve, and contact that captain. Teams are starting to work so they need to hear from you as quickly as possible. We are still looking for a lead for the Kitchen Clean-up crew (see below). Thanks in advance to all that will help make this 5th year another successful fundraiser for youth missions.

BAPTIST WORLD ALLIANCE YOUTH CONFERENCE – Leipzig, Germany –
LET’S explore the depths together, deeper into faith and community. As you may or may not be aware, Tom is serving on the Baptist World Alliance Youth Conference Planning Committee. Every 5 years, youth (high school age-college) from around the world gather to worship, learn about each other and other cultures to experience a global youth culture, personal faith, and God’s calling. Would you like to go with Tom to Leipzig, Germany? We would leave on Monday July 28 and return Monday, August 4, 2008. Total APPROXIMATE COST: $2,500 per person. (This is not a youth mission trip and does not replace the youth international trip, so all costs would be up to each participant!) This approximate cost includes flights, most meals, land travel during the conference, lodging in 4-5 star hotel, and conference fee. We must know of your commitment with a $500 non-refundable deposit by February 20, 2008. Once flights are purchased you will be responsible for the entire amount, even if you are unable to go.
CARE GROUP CONNECTIONS
All care groups met this past Sunday night and accomplished a great deal, planning and bonding. All groups have been asked to donate a theme basket to the EWF auction. Groups are also looking at doing mission projects during February or March. Please be on the lookout for communications from your shepherds and encouragers so you don't miss out on anything in the coming months!
GRAPEFUL LIVE
We had great attendance but if you weren't there we missed you. Keep an eye on your e-mail and snail mail for news from us. Our auction basket will be based on a pampering theme. If you want to contribute, we decided on $10 per person, you may mail it to Beverly or give it her in person. We need all contributions by 2/20.
FEBRUARY - 2/10 Two Guys, Western Lanes and Valentines
MARCH - mission work at With Love From Jesus
MAY - 5/3 Paintball
Have an awesome week! You are in our prayers!

ORANGE CRUSH
"Pizza and Bowling"
Date: Sunday, Feb 17 from 12noon 'til 3PM.
Time/Place: Meet 12noon in the parking lot behind Youth Annex (right after 11 am worship). We will ride over to Two Guys for lunch and then walk next door to Western Lanes to bowl. What to bring: $3 for bowling shoes (or bring your own if you have them) and $5 for pizza. We have a gift certificate to Western Lanes that our group won last year for first place in the Youth Valentine's Cookie bake off that we will be using for the game cost...yeah!. Total to bring $8. Please let Jeannie Hutton (Ph#: 571-1621) know if you can come or not so we can let the folks at Two Guys and Western Lanes know how many youth to expect...thanks!!!
***We decided on assembling a Candy basket theme for the "Evening with Friends" auction at our care group meeting Sunday night. Total collected so far to purchase the candy items/basket: $10.50. Thank you!!! If you have not done so and would like to contribute (suggest $2 to $3) or donate a basket to use for this event, just give the money or basket to Jeannie Hutton (Ph# 571-1621) or Pam Revak. We will also be assembling the basket during our Pizza/bowling outing, so anyone that wants to help with that, just jump right in..
***Group Volunteer activity- We also discussed doing a community service project in March/April. One idea was to work one Saturday morning at the Angel Food Bank (church located in Apex/Fuquay area) to assemble boxed groceries and distribute to families from 9 am to 12noon. We could then go out to lunch before heading home. Let Jeannie Hutton (Ph# 571-1621) know if you are interested in participating or have other suggestions for ways we as a group can serve our community. More details to follow on the Anget Food Bank time/place.
Thanks for all your input and $ contribution to the candy basket this past Sunday...you guys and gals rock! Have a blessed week. Jeannie and Henry
YELLOW SUBS
Hey Yellow Subs!!!It has been a while since we last met, I saw many of you throughout the holidays and know you had a blessed time with your families and friends!! I thought of you often, and prayed for you at that most special time of the year!! 1) Each Care Group is asked to provide a "themed" basket for the silent auction for Evening with Friends on Sat. March 1st. After much discussion, and some serious and "not so serious" suggestions, you voted on the choices of Gardening, Reading, Coffee-lovers, "tee-time" and pampering/spa......and the winner was "Tee Time" (which I have already communicated to Ms. Beverly, and we were the first group so it is a "go"!!) Please bring the $5 to Beth or Chuck by Sun. Feb 10th, we will check your name off the list, and I can begin to hunt items for the basket. If you have any suggestions/ideas along the theme of golf, please email me and let me know, I am open to any help I can get!!
2) We will have a Cookie/Super Bowl Party on Sun. night, Feb 3rd, 6:30-10pm at Alan's house (2905 Sissinghurst Ct. Raleigh, 803-0247). I will have the cookie dough, supplies, etc. We will have some games out for those who don't want to watch football once the cookies are done. Please come and join us for dinner, cookie-baking, and hanging out and watching the Super Bowl!! The only thing you need to bring is Boys please bring a bag of chips/popcorn/etc. and girls bring a 2-liter drink.
3) Our March activity will be "Fire and Ice" day on Sat. March 15th. We will meet at Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill on Buck Jones Rd. in Cary at 12:00 noon for lunch and then walk a block to the Ice House for the afternoon ice skating session from 1:30-4. The prices for the lunch at Crazy Fire are $6.45 for one bowl, $8.95 for 2 bowls, or $10.95 for all-you-can-eat. If you have never been there, it is a fun place to eat, where you pick your own meat, veggies, seasonings, sauces, etc. and then these fun chefs stir-fry it all on a huge grill (and are very animated about it!) The price for the ice skating is $6.00 for the skating and $3.00 for skate rental. Any group rate would only be effective for >15 people, so we will go with the individual rates for now. If we find out we are going to have >15, I will take care of the group rate. Please let me know by Sun. Mar. 9th if you plan to go, so I can let them know how many to expect.
4) Our April activity will be a service project of some sort (when the weather gets prettier), and the general group concensus seems to be that you want to do some sort of small construction project, so I will talk with Garry and see if he might can help us with that activity. In the meantime, we will continue to talk about some things we might could do if that doesn't work out this time.
5) Several of you have expressed an interest in going "Paintballing", so in May we will try to do that. It is pretty far ahead to plan specifics, but save Sat. May 3rd for that and I will get back with further details later on (This will be approx. a $20 activity). There may be some other surprises involved in that day, so plan on having a great day!! We will definitely work on team-building within our group.
Thank you each so much for your eager participation tonight, those of you who were there! As we discussed tonight, as your shepherds we are going to try to be more involved and do a better job of coordinating things and activities. We will promise to do a better job of that, and in return only ask one thing. It is important that you as a group try new things, and meet each activity with an open mind. So, with that in mind, be willing to go do something that might not be your favorite thing to do, and the next time it might be your turn to do your favorite thing. It is more fun for everyone when we have a bigger group, you will learn more about each other, and get to know each other better.
The only other thing is that we may need some extra parent participation on some of these outings, so if there is a date/activity that sounds like something you might can help with, please let me know!! We are minus our co-shepherds, so we would rather just get parents to help out on an occasional basis for now, than try to get someone to make the commitment to be co-shepherds. However, if you feel like that is something you might want to do, please let me know if you have any questions that would help clarify that role.
Have a great week!! Study hard!! Have fun skiing, and fellowshipping together!!
Let me know if there is something specific we need to pray about for you each week. This week, pray for Ben Davis as he goes to his audition for Governor's School on Saturday!!
In His love, Beth/Chuck) Cox 803-0247 (h), 523-5078 (Beth), 349-6128 (Chuck)
Blue Care Group
Thanks to all that joined us on Sunday night for a treat at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. We had a wonderful time. We missed seeing those of you who were not able to join us.
On Sunday, we selected our basket theme for Evening of Friends. Everyone decided to go out and get something to contribute to the basket or if you can’t, then give some money to one of the other care group members or the leaders and they will add something. (Yes, we did get our first choice – Chocolate!) Please bring items and give them to Kathryn by Sunday, February 24th.
And we will be working details out for our service project. Watch your email for more information.
