A Word from Dee
Dear Youth,
I’ve been thinking about how technological our world is today. You are able to keep in communication with your parents, family, and friends through phone calls, text messaging, emails, facebook, and probably even more… I know that when I was in China, having internet communication was really important to me. Of course, it is valuable to us wherever we are because it’s fast, convenient, and helps us to connect to people no matter the distance.

Are there people in your life that you’re constantly talking to? Most likely, you use the phone and/or computer to keep in touch with your friends over the weekend or just when you’re away from school and church.

The Bible talks about how we are to be in communication with God in the same manner. Paul writes for us to “pray all the time” in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Psalm 86:3 says, “Be merciful, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly.” My challenge to you this week is that you are calling constantly on the Lord. Our God desires to talk to us and listen to us…about anything and everything. When you’re spending time on the phone or internet, I pray that you’re reminded to be calling upon Jesus to communicate with Him. He loves being with you.

Peace,
Dee

A Word from Dee
Dear Youth,
For those of you that are out of school, I hope that you’re enjoying your day off. I know it’s nice to have a break from your classes. :)
When I got up this morning, I took a look in my bag and found a yellow piece of paper crumpled into a ball. I took it out and threw it towards my trashcan, and yes, I missed. It reminded me of our lesson last night about sin and missing the mark. I know that I sin each day—we all do—but I want to strive to be obedient to what God has commanded me to do. When we decide to follow Jesus, we say, “God, I care more about what you want than what I want.” My prayer for you is that you’ll say that from your heart and actively live it out.
We have a great God who can use sinners like us—wow! I praise God that He takes imperfect people like us and uses us to bring honor to Himself. That’s part of what we’re going to focus on during our fall retreat. I hope you’ll join in as Christian Walker leads us at Caswell October 12-14.
I’m praying for you and the decisions you have to make today and this week. May you choose to be obedient to Jesus.
<>Peace,
Dee

Dear Parents,
Oasis Suppers are a very important part of the Sunday schedule for our youth. Many arrive at the church early, beginning with Praise Band at 4 p.m. and stay until Bible study is over around 8 p.m. They are all very thankful for the meals we provide and look forward to the fellowship time together.
Each youth is asked to contribute $2.00 to help cover cost for the providing family. Working through email to arrange the schedule worked wonderfully last year, and hopefully will again this year with your help.
Here's how it will work.
1. Please look at your calendars and select a Sunday that is best for you. Don't forget to sign up early if you want to serve around your child's birthday.
2. Respond to Marilyn Froeber's e-mail (gumtickler80@aol.com) or call 851-7125 with the date you have chosen. I will respond as quickly as possible.
3. A reminder call or email will be given 2 weeks in advance. If something unforeseen has come up, you are responsible to change with someone else and notify me of the change.
I am asking that each family sign up for a Sunday solo. At present the group is small and if too many families serve together we will run out of families. Plan on approximately 45-50 youth and you will receive up to $80 reimbursement (to be taken from the money collected that night). If by chance you collect more, put it in an envelope and give it to Dee. You can check the Oasis notebook in the annex to see what the numbers are running.
The fourth Sunday of each month will be care group night. We will need to plan on approximately 70 (there will be approximately 16 additional adults leaders present for the meal so we will watch the youth count closely for planning) and the reimbursement will be up to $100.
There is a notebook in the kitchen that you will need to record the date, number served, and the food served. This will help each family plan for their time.
There are cooking utensils in the annex, but I believe most people come with the food already prepared. What ever works best for you is what you need to plan on. I will make sure that shelves are stocked with paper plates, napkins, cups and plastic utensils. If you plan to put anything in the refrigerator during Sunday School, make sure you write for oasis supper on the items or they will disappear.
Plan to arrive in plenty of time to set up and/or cook so that you are ready to serve at 6 p.m. Be sure to put out a basket to collect the kids' $2. Please leave the kitchen area clean once you are finished. Also, take everything you brought home with you. The refrigerator becomes stocked with condiments that no one else will use because they do not know their age.
Thanks to the great, early response, we are all set through December 2007. I will send out a calendar sign up for 2008 around the end of October. If you already know a date you would like in 2008 go ahead and let me know and I will reserve it for you.
Thanks for all you do serving our great bunch of youth! They are a good group of kids that represent a great group of families.
If you have any questions or concerns about the suppers please contact me.
Serving with you,
Marilyn Froeber

A Word from Dee
Dear Youth,
What a full weekend it has been! I enjoyed visiting with many of you at the Pig Pickin’ on Saturday. The Praise Band did an excellent job of helping us to praise the Lord through music. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to clean up—we accomplished the task in less than an hour! Having so many helping hands made the work a lot lighter.
I was excited to see so many of you at the Lead Team Sign-Ups. I know that God has good things in store for us as we work to plan together. May He be our focus in all activities. If you couldn’t come on Sunday, and you want to be on a team, please let me know where you would like to serve.
It was good for me to hear your comments and suggestions for the youth minister search committee. As the interim, I take your opinions seriously as I am trying to serve as your current minister. I am praying for the person who comes behind me, and I trust that God is at work in this process.
Do you remember what we talked about last night? Being consecrated, meaning to be set apart and to be holy. When we choose to follow Jesus, we are called to be different. God has called you to be holy. I pray that this week you see the opportunities God places before you to be set apart, holy, and different. The Holy Spirit will give you all that you need to be faithful…I am praying for you to be obedient.
Peace,
Dee

Allison’s Notes- (Epistle)
Hello Friends,
Let me begin with a GREAT BIG thank you for my surprise birthday party and gift certificate! I was really surprised and touched when all of you popped up and out last Wednesday night as I walked through the doors. Camp and Ramp was a huge success. The cardboard houses were creative to say the least, complete with patios, spray paint, and even Christmas lights. Phillip Revak pulled out the victory with his house being built to stay warm. Our neighbors across the street on Clark Ave. were our judges. Our "bagged" shelter style dinners, our Bible study and mission projects made the event complete. Thanks to our Local Mission Project Lead Team for organizing our projects and to every chaperone and leader who helped make Camp and Ramp successful. Sunday's Oasis was part two of our pre-trip preparation. The Stephenson's shared with us their missions experience in South Africa and challenged us to be spiritually prepared for our summer mission trips. Our Praise Band got us on our feet with a new selection. Wow! What a great job! I hope you all have a great week. I am praying for those of you who are taking the EOG's and final exams. I challenge you to Focus, Feed, and Fashion (words from our Bible Study) as you journey through another week.
Love,
Allison

Middle School Mission Trip Update
We will have a meeting for ALL youth and adult leaders who plan to attend our summer mission trip to Asheville on Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the annex!

ATTN: High School Mission Trip Participants

You should have received your VIP packets in the mail by now. Please let us know if you have not. We need your immediate attention to the forms in this packet, so that you will have everything completed by our meeting on Sunday, June 3, 2007 @ 5:00 PM in the Youth Annex. There will be at least 2 notaries there for your convenience.

Some of you began thinking about your Mission Trip this past weekend at our "Camp & Ramp". What I challenge you to do from this point on is what the Stephensons spoke about last night at Oasis.....PRAY, PRAY and PRAY more! Pray for WHERE you are going, WHO you will meet, & WHAT you will be doing~~all for God's Glory!

If you have any questions about the Mission Trip, please contact Allison or me, youth@foresthills.org.

Thanks,
Mama Woodard
