Missions & Evangelism
As the name suggests, the Missions and Evangelism Council is responsible for encouraging and administering the ministry teams that are engaged in evangelism and ministry to people outside of our church family. These ministry teams reach out to those in need as well as to the unchurched and lost in our community, our state and the world.

Some of the ministries under this council's care are conducted completely outside of Forest Hills and our ministry team network. They include The Baptist Retirement Home, Baptist Hospital, Hunger Relief, State Missions and National and International Missions. They also include our cooperative giving funds with which we participate with Baptist ministry efforts throughout our state and the world.

Other ministries, like the Raleigh Baptist Association, Raleigh Urban Ministry, Alliance Medical Ministry, Hospice and the Pastoral Care Network, are cooperative ministries with various churches in the Triangle and include both service by and ministry to Forest Hills members.

A final group of ministries, some long standing and others new, are in response to the Holy Spirit's leading of Forest Hills members into more direct action and service. These ministries include familiar outreach efforts, such as our ESL program which seeks out and attempts to meet the needs of internationals in the Triangle, our youth outreach, and our warm embrace of area college students. But others, such as Operation Inasmuch, the Welcome Wagon ministry to new families, and a ministry team reaching out to broken families and divorced members of our community, are exciting new ministries, the result of new spiritual stirrings among us.

Unlike the other councils, the funds allocated to Mission and Evangelism ministries and activities come from three sources:

  • our regular budget,
  • the generosity of our world missions offering, and
  • a portion of the Inside–Out funds which were allocated to outreach and missions when given.

This last source is a finite source, which has been accumulating as we have fulfilled the Inside-Out fund raising effort. Because of this stewardship, a portion of these funds will be reserved for mission opportunities that we expect the Lord to raise up over the course of this next year.

The chart below breaks out the Missions and Evangelism Council resource plan expenditures for 2007 for these ministries by category and by team. It also breaks out the source of the funds for each of these.

Ministries in Waiting:

Should your projected gifts for 2007 exceed the amounts requested by the Missions and Evangelism Council, we have already identified ministry opportunities towards which those funds would be allocated.

First, we have a significant population of young adults in our neighborhood who have graduated from college and are outside of the target demographics of our college ministry. Many have not found a church home. We would like to begin addressing the spiritual needs of these newly graduated young adults.

A second significant outreach opportunity we have is to Hispanics who are in the Triangle for professional or educational reasons. We're proposing to begin funding this ministry team in 2007 and would love to have additional resources to help launch this effort.  As you can see God is challenging us to be faithful in the ministries he has already called us to as well as in new opportunities He is bringing to the forefront. How we are able to respond is up to us.
