Disciple & Nurture Council
Through discipleship and nurture, one grows in understanding of what it means to be a child of God in the world. The goal of the Discipleship and Nurture Council is to provide opportunities for church members to be nurtured, to connect, and to be equipped so they may be the presence of Christ in the world. From preschool to senior adult, there are numerous activities aimed at helping the people of God develop and deepen their faith.
The kingdom vision of several teams within this council will be realized in 2007 with the creation of the neighborhood nurturing team ($3600). This team will provide various events to nurture Fred Olds School and the surrounding community, including an ice cream social, 5th grade graduation, and an Easter egg hunt. This team is also in the process of visioning a special event for Christmas to bring families into the church.
A unique and newly funded team is the adoption support team ($1000). The purpose of this team is to encourage the church to support adoption by considering adoption and/or encouraging those who have been called to adopt. The team is already planning an adoption fair for March 2007.
The preschool and children's team continues to lay foundations for the development of the child's personal faith in Christ and also seeks to equip parents. Weekly teaching/nurture, camps, and Vacation Bible School are among the events planned for the coming year. One vision of this team is to explore the possibility of a daytime preschool program.
The youth spiritual growth team is committed to helping young persons increase their knowledge of God's word, develop spiritual disciplines, and build Godly relationships by planning weekly Bible studies and having seasonal spiritual retreats. $9000 of the resource plan is targeted toward youth in-reach, outreach, and spiritual growth.
Adult discipleship will happen throughout the year in Bible study, leadership development, and events to build community. In particular, the Sunday School team will have a presence at the Raleigh Wedding Show and Relay for Life. This team will also sponsor retreats for adult departments. New ministries for women and men are committed to building relationships, mentoring, and growing the kingdom of God. Retreats are planned for both women and men in 2007.

Many existing teams continue to provide support and service. Food Services, bereavement, prayer, and media center teams will carry on their respective ministries with enthusiasm. As with all teams, a valuable resource is the people who serve faithfully. For example, members of the bereavement team provide presence and comfort as well as meet the physical needs of those who walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
Teams within this council are committed to helping the people of God develop their faith in a safe and nurturing environment. We lift the challenge of Jesus Christ in John 15 as our guiding truth, “Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
